Welcome to the third edition of Write Your SaaS Growth. In this edition, we discuss:

  • Email Marketing
  • Growth Marketing
  • Sales
  • SEO
  • Social Media Marketing
Let’s get started:

Growth Tip of the Week!
Valentin
my point is : don't overcomplicate things

if you have to deploy 32 different marketing channels to get your first users... something is off with your offer or your target audience (or both)

you *have* to fix that before anything else otherwise you're wasting your effort
Ads
If you are looking to validate/grow/scale your SaaS with ads, make sure you know what you are doing. If you do not know, hire someone who knows. You don’t want to waste your time and energy on running paid ads until you are an expert in running them yourself.
Angelo
In the last few weeks I've hopped on several sales calls since ramping up outreach and here's what I've concluded ⬇️

Most SaaS companies don't know what they DON'T
KNOW when it comes to paid ads.

This is extremely detrimental when looking at the time,
money, & efforts wasted.
Cold Email
Sending a cold outreach to your prospect? This is SUPER basic but if you are sending a cold email to prospects, get yourself an email with a domain. Unless you are sending it to your friend or family!
Vlad Falin
I receive cold email outreach on behalf of some well-known SaaS brands.

These emails are sent from hotmail, gmail, yahoo email...

It's 2022, how is this still a "thing"?
Content Marketing
Do you enjoy scrolling through memes? It’s wild how memes are transforming SaaS business through content too! I’ve seen a Twitter account explode with super-relevant memes. Companies are also officially hiring meme-makers! Add 1-2 memes to your content marketing strategy, they are the future.
Ross Simmonds
It's wild how powerful memes are right now.

Even in B2B...

I was chatting with a media buyer last week who works with a few SaaS companies and they said all of their top performing ads were memes.

There's a new CMO in town:

Chief Meme Officer.

Kidding. Kind of... A thread: https://t.co/yZTB5j23ST
Community
Communities are a super-effective way to grow your SaaS. Read how LemList leveraged personality and community to grow without any major funding. Yup, they started building in public and publically growing a community!
Chris Closset
Lemlist is a great example of how startups can leverage their personality and community to grow without funding.

Here are my 10 biggest lessons learned from @GuillaumeMbh and @lemlist from their journey towards a $150M valuation you can apply in any SAAS business.

Copywriting
It’s said a lot of times and we will still say it another time. Features sound good for someone developing the app. It helps you boost your ego! Your customers do not care about the features. They might not even care about the benefits. All they care about are RESULTS! Show them how your SaaS can bring them their desired results.

Dear SaaS founder,

Talking about;

- features: serves you
- benefits: serves your prospect
- results: creates desire

Focus on the last two

#Content #business #Marketing #copywriting
Email Marketing
Only send emails when your customer wants you to. A newsletter is NOT the only email marketing strategy. Here is a creative tip to get more signups by pulling your customers from a transactional email.
Denise Aday 💚 Our bodies. Our lives. Our freedom.
Email marketing tip for SAAS co's: Instead of spamming customers with your new newsletter, send a one-off, transactional, "new benefit" email inviting them to opt in. You need to collect their express permission. And that's a cool, non-spammy way to do it.
Growth Marketing
Growth can come in multiple ways. But fancy terms will not bring you growth. I see growth as one big wheel moving forward with all levers supporting it. Growth always comes together, not individually.
Faraaz PB
While Product Led Growth is the recent talk amongst product and product marketing teams.

It's not about #PLG v/s #SLG

For many SaaS orgs, I think it has to be a combination of both.

It has to be Product Led Sales.

Product led Sales = Product led growth + sales led growth.
Sales
As a founder or a maker, a reminder that your primary objective is to get more sales. And now, you have an answer for all awkward the questions :)
Andrew Gazdecki
When asked what your job is as a startup founder just say sales.

It'll avoid a lot of confusion plus they won't think you're unemployed.
SEO
SEO is a big effort! It can be boring, confusing, and take too much time. But it can help you generate results forever. That’s the power and the beauty of it. Stay patient and consistently publish!

Let's talk about SaaS SEO🚀 What irritates you the most?
Social Media Marketing
Twitter is amazing! You can grow your Twitter and your SaaS along with by it just investing 1 hour every day. Here’s how:

Finally the condenser mic arrived! 🎙️ But it's not connecting to my laptop 💻

Troubleshooting and then ready to gear up SaaSwrites 📈

Anyone got ideas to fix a condenser not connecting to Windows 10?
Thanks for reading! We have launched SaaSwrites around 2 weeks and it’s a humble attempt to help SaaS founders and marketers grow their SaaS.
Just got a new condenser microphone and am super pumped to interview some of the SaaS founders on growth channels.
